KETHEA (THERAPY CENTER FOR DEPENDENT INDIVIDUALS)

KETHEA is a self-governed, non-profit legal entity of private law. It was established by Law 1729/87 and was the first organisation in Greece to offer therapy, primary prevention, training of professionals and research in the field of drug addiction. KETHEA comprises a nation-wide network of services provided free of charge, and enjoys widespread recognition. It has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). KETHEA’s programmes are based on the model of Therapeutic Communities. They do not administer medication but, instead, they offer a broad range of clinical and support services. Moreover, the therapeutic programmes have the capacity to respond to clients with diverse needs and degrees of involvement with substances, including adults, adolescents, parents, immigrants, refugees and prison inmates. KETHEA comprises therapeutic programmes throughout Greece: ITHAKI, STROFI, EXODOS, PAREMVASI, DIAVASI, NOSTOS, EXELIXIS, ARIADNI, PLEFSI, EN DRASI, ANADYSI, MOSAIC, KIVOTOS, OXYGONO, ALFA, PILOTOS, EXANTAS, a Programme for Addicted Mothers, a Counselling Unit for Prisoners in Thessaloniki, a Reception and Re-entry Centre for Released Prisoners in Thessaloniki, the KETHEA ITHAKI Helpline (1145), Prevention, Training and Research Sectors, and the KETHEA SCHEMA & CHROMA printing unit.
